06 Bondi Blue Chardonnay $6.99
This great value in everyday Chardonnay begins with a nose of ripe core fruit through which tones of dried mango, papaya and beeswax interweave. On the palate the wine is charming and approachable, delivering ripe pear notes that meld with more dried mango and papaya plus soft tones of beeswax. The finish is well mannered and quite clean. This wine will drink very well on its own or with lighter fare such as fresh or gilled vegetables or chicken or fish kabobs.
06 Artazu “Artazuri” Garnacha $9.97
Located in the northernmost zone of the Navarra region, Bodegas Artazu specializes in Grenache. This, their entry level wine, is an incredible value made from the younger vines on their property. Bright red with zesty redcurrant, strawberry and cranberry on the nose, with notes of dusty minerals and pepper adding interest. Tangy and energetic on the palate, the red fruit flavors sharply etched and pure. Firming juicy acids help to carry the strawberry tone through a spicy, long finish. It is a fresh and fruity wine, with an underlying minerality that is great with or without food.
04 Bogedas Almansenas “La Huela Adaras” $9.99
“The 2004 La Huella de Adaras, a blend of 60% Tintorera, 30% Monastrell, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged on its lees for 12 months in concrete and steel vats. Purple-colored, it offers up pure aromas of blueberry, blackberry, and black currants. On the palate it is plush, ripe, and sweet with nicely concealed tannins. It has a pure, 30 second finish. Drink this tasty effort over the next 3-4 years.” WA 89
05 Odfjell “Armador” Chile Cabernet Sauvignon $8.97
This wine received a 90 point rating by The Wine Advocate, although no tasting note was given. It is another outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon value from this impressive Chilean producer. Bright red and black berries are followed by a touch of roasted red pepper and a hint of fresh jalapeño. The brightness of the nose carries through on the palate, which is smooth and loaded with cassis and blackberry flavors and chalk tones. This wine finishes with vibrant fruit and a touch of pleasingly dusty, ripe tannins. An expressive and distinctive Cabernet buy.
06 Terra Andina Valle de
Leyda Pinot Noir Reserva $9.99
This wine is proof that Chile can make serious value Pinot Noir that is, Pinot that tastes like Pinot and delivers ample concentration and liveliness! The nose is an enticing mélange of fresh cut strawberry and hints of orange zest and cranberry. The palate is silky and harmonious with a fantastic spine of acidity that supports more ripe strawberry and hints of plum as well as gentle spice nuances. The structure is ample enough to pair this wine with a wide variety of foods or it can be enjoyed on its own. This is a tremendous value in Pinot Noir!
