We at PJs are proud to offer you our own nymph in a bottle, the Viña Sila “Naiades.” This wine is an elegant and exquisite oak-aged Verdejo from the high central plateau of Spain. The Naiades vineyards are located near the ancient village of La Seca in Rueda, the only white wine appellation in Castilla Leon and the vines average 90 years in age with many over 100 years old. For generations, these ungrafted vines have survived in an unforgiving and harsh climate, thriving in infertile, sandy soils and resisting the assault of phylloxera, which decimated vineyards throughout Europe. These resilient vines produce extremely low yields of exceptional grapes, from which this remarkable wine is crafted. Made from ancient vines, this succulent, aromatic and lush wine is not your ordinary Verdejo. It offers up ample ripe peach, warm pear, and vibrant apricot notes on the nose. The palate is unctuous and decadently rich with pretty stone fruit notes that play off the wines moderate, barrel-aged oak foundation. It is backed by deep minerality and rich acidity, both of which carry into the long, lingering finish. This “Super-Verdejo” compares with fine white Burgundy and is ideal with oysters on the half shell, fresh sea scallops or lobster sautéed in sweet butter. Donald |
