2005 Domaine du Tabatau Languedoc VdP des Monts de la Grage White “Geneviève”

’05 Domaine du Tabatau Languedoc
VdP des Monts de la Grage White “Geneviève”
$15.99
2005 Domaine du Tabatau Languedoc VdP des Monts de la Grage White “Geneviève”Bruno Garcia, the winemaker and visionary behind Domaine du Tabatau spent a decade making wine at the famed Mas Daumas before he and his brother Jean-Paul Garcia created their own domaine in 1997. Bruno and Jean-Paul grew up in a family of winemakers that can trace their wine-growing heritage back a century through a handful of generations.

Located in the very heart of the Saint Chinian, an oft overlooked diamond in the very heart of the Langedoc, the Tabatau vineyards consist of small parcels of ancient vines. Bruno and Jean-Paul farm organically as their forefathers did and have made great use of traditional wine making techniques that have been handed down over the generations.

A rugged terroir consisting of a clay-limestone soil that is 250-300 meters above sea level, a constant dry Mediterranean climate and violent cold winter winds from the nearby Pyrenees Mountains add a decidedly rustic edge to a highly elegant and refined interpretation of traditional Southern French winemaking.

Tabatau’s captivating white cuvée “Geneviève” is an unfiltered blend of 52% Grenache Blanc, 31% Chardonnay and 17% Roussanne. Broad shouldered on the nose and palate, this elegant blend carries full aromas of white peach, melon, honeysuckle, beeswax, supple tropical fruit and soft hints of warm ripe pear. On the palate, bright pear and white peach fruit flavors are elegantly framed in a delicate filigree of supple nectarine and mineral notes and a slight suggestion of oak. This is a great white to serve with garden salads dressed in sweet balsamic vinaigrette, grilled fish, seared scallops, homemade pesto dishes or semi-soft cheeses.
