03 Château d'Or et de Gueules Costières de Nîmes Grenache Blend
03 Château d'Or et de Gueules Costières de Nîmes Grenache Blend $11.99
Château d'Or et de Gueules is a young winery founded in 1998. Its name comes from the colors on the family crest of winery owner Diane de Puymorin and mirrors the character of the estate and her philosophy. Gold, 'Or' in French, signifies the wealth of the powerful southern sun and its generous warmth. Red, 'Gueules' in old French, is for the character, strength and pleasing fullness of the wines.
Her property lies on the southern side of Costières de Nîmes, in the southern Rhône Valley between the picturesque villages of St. Gilles and Generac (this is Van Gogh landscape country here) and is very close to the marshes and beaches of the Camargue. Her vineyards face south and south-east on a gently sloping terroir that is covered in galets roulésthe famous, large rounded stones also found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Dianes wines all show distinctive personality that reflects the land and the care she takes making them. Her wines are made from the traditional varieties Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. She aims to express the character and structure of the region, but with elegance and finesse.
This remarkable value red is blended from Grenache, Syrah and Carignan grapes grown at low yield levels. It displays a deep dark purple color in the glass and offers scents of ripe black plum, red berry, and sweet cherry infused infused with spice tones. This blend is supple and ripe on the palate with loads of black fruit and blueberry flavors poised before a backdrop of pepper and sweet spice. This lusty red is perfect red to serve with char-grilled burgers, barbecued meats or grilled steaks.
