Piedirosso is a varietal we don't get to taste everyday, and takes its name from the shape of its vines, which resemble a pigeon's red foot. We suppose pigeons have a different connotation in Campania than they do here in New York, and this medium-bodied, velvety, Sangiovese-esque wine would actually go quite well with some game-bird. Its balance of fruit and acidity would also pair with a little spaghetti Bolognese, or some Pecorino cheese and olives. This is one of those rare wines that comes in at a fair price while balancing a delicate body with intense aromatics and flavors. A very cool find. - PJ
