93 WA - Sally's Paddock 2007 (750ML)

Worthy of a very special dinner, this Aussie-style Bordeaux blend (they throw in 40% Shiraz for good measure), heady with aromas of black cherries, summer roses, and fresh tobacco is an Antipodean indulgence worth shelling out for. But instead of just going for the big price tag tied up with a pretty bow of winemaking magic tricks, owner/winemaker Neill Robb gives it the kid-glove treatment, hand-picking, manually punching, basket pressing in small batches, and using wild yeast during fermentation, which we think really adds to the distinct sense of place you get from this blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot picked from four acres in Central Victoria.--PJ
