Lacking the hype of '09, and for good reason, '08s are a bit spottier, a bit inconsistent and therefore offering bargains. Herbart de Montille is a Burgundy icon, and for us, a more significant and admirable icon than even the holy grounds of DRC. And in his kingdom, the '08 is not just rocking, it's a divine translation of terroir. '08 is a year for those seeking purity, classicism, and ageability. Higher acids, lower alcohol, a bit rough now but a swan for sure. Allen Meadows of Burghound, notes that the '08 "Taillepieds" has: "A pure nose of very cool red pinot fruit is nuanced with attractive notes of wet stone and anise that complement well the intensely mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent detail and precision on the linear and delicious finish."
