Vincent Paris "Granit 30" Cornas 2009 (750 ml) (sustainable)Cornas is not so much a wine as it is a distinct expression of place. The Syrahs from this neck of the Northern Rhone are so smoky, that perhaps only the wines of nearby Cote Rotie come close to producing grapes that at times seem to have more in common with pancetta than fruit. Vincent Paris is a young man for a Cornas vintner, but studied under his uncle, the Rhone legend Robert Michel, and is now crafting some of the finest terroir translators of Cornas we have had the good fortune to put our lips to over the last 12 months. For winter, for cassoulet, for cooking a hearty meal at home and trying to impress your date, this is the real deal. Overflowing with expression, meat, smoke, and graphite.
