We recently read, and were inspired by, Jacques Pepin's memoir of his life in the kitchen. Our favorite part of the book is when he talks about his childhood in France and working with his parents in their humble countryside restaurants where his mom made the food and his father the wine. His Papa's vin were not wines to age, or collect, but drink straight from the barrel, at the bar, and in copious amounts. This is what the French refer to as vin de comptoir (counter top wine). Simple, delicious, and always better with a slight cellar chill. Tasse des Anges is true vin de comptoir; a 100% Gamay from the Loire Valley, 100% organic, and 100% quaffable. This is wine for the people-if those people are rural French, or anyone who romanticizes them (us! us!) Seriously, this is not serious wine. Don't think, just throw some hearty, fatty food on the long wooden table, and wash it down with this beautifully simple juice. No swirling or sniffing allowed. - PJ
