Nicolas Jay Nysa Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015 (750ml)

Nicolas Jay Nysa Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015 (750ml)

The 2015 Nysa starts very fragrant, elegant and enticing, with concentrated red fruit, strawberry and candied cherry. Although initially a bit condensed and shy, showing a lithe yet vibrant side, the wine has a density that continues to build on the finish. The solid cherry core is highlighted with spice notes that zip nicely through the palate, balancing out its more charming and seductive qualities. Nysa shows serious presence and definition on an elegant frame.

Situated at an elevation of 600 to 700 feet in the Dundee Hills, Nysa Vineyard was planted in 1990 by Michael Mega, and is recognized as the source for some of Oregon’s most exciting pinot noirs. Nicolas-Jay’s grapes come from a coveted block of own-rooted Pommard clone vines that are some of the site’s original 1990 Plantings. These tightly spaced vines grow in Jory volcanic soils with an underlying layer of basalt bedrock that helps allow the vines to be dry farmed. The older vines on this block naturally produce yields of just under 2.0 tons per acre. - Winery

From own-rooted vines planted in 1990, the 2016 Pinot Noir Nysa Vineyard is pale to medium ruby-purple with an open nose of warm red and black cherries and cranberries with notes of dried red rose petals, peppercorn, sliced meats, potpourri and warm earth. Light to medium-bodied, it gives good concentration of cherries and berries flavors in the mouth with meaty/earthy touches and lots of pretty floral perfume, with a good frame of firm, grainy tannins and juicy acidity, finishing long. 85 cases produced.
