Casa Aurora Poula 2017 (750ml)

Poula is a local word meaning abandoned, the name of this wine is a tribute to the old, abandoned vineyards of the area. A field blend of Mencía, Garnacha Tintorera, Portuguesa (Trousseau), Palomino, Godello, Doña Blanca (approx. 40% white grapes) planted on iron-rich red clay and granite. The average age of the vines is between 70-110 years old, where the local tradition is bush-training, planted between 700-800 meters altitude with south-southwest exposure. All vineyards are organic and dry-farmed. Vineyard names are Tras El Palomar, El Quintanal, La Llamina, Poulón, and El Barreo. Grapes were hand-harvested. The winemaking is foot-trodden with regular punch-downs. Malolactic occurred in barrel and the wines were aged in anfora of various sizes for 13 months.
