Logan Farrell Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017 (750ML)

Logan Farrell Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017 (750ML)

This tastes like Napa Cabernet Sauvignon through and through. It has a rich, deep fruit core with plenty of structure and acidity. A vibrant bouquet of sweet, ripe raspberries is the perfect complement to the lush seamless body of the wine. Tannins are present, but oh so soft, resulting in a full-bodied and yet easily drunk Cabernet Sauvignon.

Logan Farrell Cabernet Sauvignon is the newest creation from Mike O’Connell, who seems to have the Midas touch in creating value-driven brands that have great success (Freelander, Greyson Cellars, Block Nine, Pavillon, Hanging Vine). Mike has once again teamed up with veteran winemaker Larry Levin who has over 30 years of experience making wines in Napa for Quintessa and Turnbull. Like all of the wines that Mike O’Connell brings to the market, the Logan Farrell is a wine that offers tremendous value and quality for the money. The wine is dense and polished with an energetic balance and is a quintessential Napa Valley Cabernet.

The grapes were crushed and allowed to cold soak for a few days before being fermented in stainless steel tanks and transferred to French, oak barrels. Aged for 20 months in French oak with about 25% new.

PJ Wine’s Wine of the year is not a decision that is made lightly; it needs to be a wine that not only impresses us but will impress our customers as well. It needs to be a wine worthy of the moniker “PJ Wine’s Wine of the Year.” We have certain parameters that the wine needs to fulfill such as being a sound representative of its designation, overdelivering for its price point, and of course having mass appeal.

The selection process began with us gathering samples of the wines that stood out to us throughout the year, brown-bagging them to remove bias and tasting them blind. The top three wines were revealed, and then we tasted them again while discussing each bottle’s merits, which presented a clear winner.

And the winner is….. not so fast! The winner will be revealed this upcoming Monday (December 16), you will have to be patient. While you wait, we believed the other two top wines deserved some attention as well, after all, they scored higher than the majority of the wines tasted. So today we present to you the third-place finisher in PJ Wine’s Wine of the Year blind taste-off, Logan Farrell Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017!

It was a bit of a surprise to see this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Oakville AVA of Napa Valley, score so highly with a room full of traditional wine lovers, but the appeal of this wine was undeniable! Descriptive words like “seamless, sexy, cocoa and black raspberries” were being thrown about the room. As we kept revisiting the wine we all remarked on how pleasurable it was to drink. We can go into the structure of the wine and how it’s acidity is fresh enough to balance the deep rich core of fruit it has, but it seems unnecessary because the takeaway point of this wine is that it is just so darn…. PLEASURABLE!

The P in PJ, with a smile brimming from ear to ear, can be quoted stating, “people are going to love this!”
