Guido Marsella Fiano di Avellino 2018 (750ML)

Guido Marsella Fiano di Avellino 2018 (750ML)

Fiano was once considered one of Italy's great white varities. Unfortunately, this reputation was lost as production levels ballooned to boost the export market and the increased strain on yields diluted the grape's personality.

Guido Marsella founded his winery in 1995 with a nostalgia for Fiano's glory days and a drive to produce the greatest expression of the grape possible. His Fiano shows the real potential of the grape when grown and vinified carefully in a high altitude and mountainous zone.

From his seven organically farmed hectares of Fiano at 650 meters, Guido produces only 500 to 800 cases of Fiano per vintage. The soils are primarily rocky with a limy-clay subsoil. All of the Fiano on Guido's property comes from one 7 hectare vineyard in Summonte, the highest point in Avellino. (Guido and Ciro Picariello are neighbors.) The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel with some fine lees contact. He bottles after twelve months and lets it rest in bottle for another year before it is released.
